The front feet of the raccoon are similar to the hands of a human in both appearance and dexterity to allow to the raccoon to easily hold onto things.
Gray squirrels come in many colors. Shades of gray are the most common followed by shades of brown. There are also pure white and pure black squirrels, but both are variations of the gray squirrel. The common red squirrel can have an all black coat.
The most distinctive difference between rats and mice is their size. Because of this, new rodent species that are discovered are easily classified as rats or mice. Rats tend to be much larger than mice.
Bats have a sixth sense known as echolocation. This means that the bat creates a series of supersonic sounds, which the bat then uses to locate prey by the sounds that are reflected back to them.
The armadillo has additional armor that covers the top of its head, the upper parts of the armadillo’s limbs and the armadillo’s tail. The underside of the armadillo has no armor, and is simply covered with soft skin and fur, hence it’s strategy of curling into a ball leaving only the armored plates exposed.
Snakes often flick their tongues, which allows them to smell the air, and they are ectotherms, which means they must sun themselves in order to manage internal body temperature. Also, snakes must shed their skin three to six times per year.

The opossum is often referred to as a possum, although there is no direct link between the possums of Australia and the opossum of America. The opossum is the only species of marsupial that is found outside of Australia and it’s surrounding islands.
Baby skunks are born blind and completely toothless, with the eyes of the baby skunk not opening until the skunk is a few weeks old. The baby skunks are also unable to use their defensive spray when they are first born. When the skunk is a couple of weeks old, the skunks spraying ability develops just before it’s eyes open.
Coyotes are wary of humans since they have historically been trapped by humans but are known for terrorizing livestock, and even household pets.
Badgers have been known to fight animals as big as a lion!
The beaver colonies create one or more dams in the beaver colonies’ habitat to provide still, deep water to protect the beavers against predators. The beavers also use the deep water created using beaver dams and to float food and building materials along the river.
Bobcats are incredibly secretive yet powerful animals that are able to pounce on their prey from up to three meters away before delivering a fatal bite, allowing Bobcats to also hunt animals that may be up to double their own size.
Chipmunks, also known as ground squirrels, can be found all throughout the United States, in areas ranging from suburban to urban.
The fox is found in urban city areas in the northern Hemisphere and is a nocturnal mammal, meaning that the fox only goes out at night to hunt for prey.
Larger lizards can whip their tails aggressively when threatened.
The eyes and ears of the mole are very small and usually covered in fur. The small eyes of the mole are thought to have become like this due to the mole not using its eyes and through natural selection. The most powerful sense a mole has is its sense of smell, and some species of mole (such as the star-nosed mole) are able to detect, catch and eat their prey in less than a second!
A relative of the spider, scorpions have a frightening appearance that is well-deserved. These stinging, venomous arachnids are notorious for hiding in gardens and other outdoor areas and striking if they feel threatened.
