Termite Control in Dallas: How to Diagnose a Problem

Besides getting rid of mice and rats, we at the Wildlife X Team are often contacted to handle termite control in Dallas. Termites in Dallas, just as in other places, are insidious creatures and can infest a business or property in what is seemingly a blink of an eye.

Termite Classifications

Among termite populations, three distinct groups of termites exist. Each of these types is referenced as drywood, subterranean, or dampwood termites. All the worker termites in these three groups look about the same. In order to tell the difference, you have to note the features of the reproductive caste, or alates, and the soldiers.

Determining the Differences

Alates, or swarmers, among drywood termites possess two sets of wings. Pigmented heavy veins are seen on the outer part of the front wing. The swarmers shed the wings rapidly after they have swarmed. Therefore, the dead swarmers among the drywood type will not feature wings. Dead swarmers among subterranean termites however may still have wings – a distinguishing feature between the deadwood and subterranean species.

Drywood Termite Identification

The soldiers among drywood termites exhibit teeth and large mouthparts called mandibles. They are usually bigger than workers and soldiers in subterranean colonies. Drywood termites develop colonies in wood without the need to connect to the ground, and often do damage to attic wood or wood structures that have very little moisture. Therefore, their diet consists of cellulose materials, on occasion, as well as wood.

Signs that a drywood termite infestation has occurred is typically signaled after a heavy rain or in warm temperatures. At those times, reproductive termites can be seen in flight. The insects produce fecal pellets known as frass.

Making an Identification

The pellets are hexagonal in shape and about 1 mm long. If this kind of matter is seen, then you need to contact us here at the Wildlife X Team to confirm if the activity is current or if the matter has been left by a dead colony. Termite control in Dallas is part of an all-inclusive checklist that ensures the homeowner that their entire home will be inspected for a variety of pests.

We encourage homeowners to contact us here at the Wildlife X team immediately if they suspect a termite problem. According to studies, termites cause U.S. homeowners about a billion dollars of damage annually. Not only that, when it comes to termite control in Dallas, the damage is not covered by most homeowner insurance policies.

That is why, when it comes to termite control in Dallas, we at the Wildlife X Team make every effort to prevent major termite damage from occurring to a business or a home. Whether the harm comes from drywood or subterranean termites, we know how to eliminate the infestation so it does not reoccur at a property.
